Plainsman
Self-fertileLight-colored grain, mild — An interspecific hybrid of Amaranthus hypochondriacus (a gold-seeded Mexican selection) and A. hybridus (a black-seeded Pakistani selection), released in 1992 by Rodale Research Center with the University of Nebraska, bred for early maturity, light seed color and short stature. Expect a large amount of morphological variation: unbranched stems are only the most frequent condition (39% of plants), and height ranges from roughly 27 to 90 inches depending on site and irrigation.
